Privacy Policy

NovelLens (“NovelLens,” “we,” “us”) is a literature intelligence platform for life science researchers. This policy explains what information we collect when you use novellens.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built NovelLens as researchers, and we treat your data the way we’d want ours treated: we collect only what the product needs, and we never sell it.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and institution. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password or access to any other Google data.
- Research profile: the project title, description, keywords, disease areas, methods, and any NIH grant numbers you enter so we can personalize your feed.
- Activity in the product: papers you save, notes, collections, lab membership, and interactions such as opening or dismissing papers. We use this to rank your feed and power features like reading streaks and your lab’s shared knowledge base.
- Technical data: standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and request times) collected by our hosting provider to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and sign you in.
- To find, score, and rank research papers for your project.
- To enable lab features, such as shared reading lists, invitations, and onboarding kits.
- To send product emails you’ve opted into, such as weekly digests and high-relevance alerts. You can turn these off anytime in Settings.
- To keep the service secure, diagnose problems, and improve NovelLens.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Service providers we rely on
We share information only with the providers needed to run NovelLens, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Anthropic — AI analysis. Paper abstracts and your research profile (keywords, disease areas, methods, project description) are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate relevance scores and summaries.
- Resend — delivery of the emails you’ve opted into.
- Google — sign-in, if you choose “Continue with Google.”
Paper metadata comes from public scholarly sources such as PubMed, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, bioRxiv, and medRxiv. We query them with your project keywords; we do not send them your personal information.
Lab sharing
If you join a lab, other members of that lab can see your name, role, papers you share to the lab, and notes you add to the lab’s knowledge base. Your personal saved papers and private notes stay private.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing jadon@novellens.com, and we will do so within 30 days, except where we must retain information to meet legal obligations.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled at the database level, and sensitive credentials are kept server-side. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
NovelLens is intended for researchers and is not directed to children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in the product.
